The cult of Osiris

Osiris was the god of Ancient Egypt who was considered to suffer a lot during his life. His life is described in the myth "Osiris and Isis". According to the myth Osiris was the ruler of people on our planet first and he was also the teacher of people teaching people agriculture, laws, religion, etc. He could travel all around the world giving knowledge. He taught to refuse from the gun and to solve all conflicts with the help of songs and music. But his brother Set trapped him and put Osiris in the closed box and dropped into the sea. Isis that was the sister and the wife of Osiris after long searches brought the body of her husband and brother to Egypt and hid his body. Set found this body occasionally, divided it into several pieces and spread these pieces all over Egypt. But Isis found all pieces with the help of other gods and made the body of these pieces again.

Later myth adds the son of Isis and Osiris Hor who fought Set and became the ruler of the world of live people and Osiris became the ruler of the world of dead people.

The popularity of the Osiris cult is explained by several reasons. First of all Osiris was first the person. Secondly, he became immortal with the help of gods, and gods made him the ruler of the other world. And of course any person could repeat his destiny because everybody wanted to get the happy and eternal life.

Osiris gives the base for the development of the views on the other world in Ancient Egypt. And in such way the duality of the other world appears. First Ancient Egyptians divided the soul and the body and then paradise and hell.

Astronomy was always important in Ancient Egypt. That is why even the Pyramids were built according to the night sky forming the constellation. And Nile was playing the role of the Via Lacteal.
