Pyramids of Egypt

Pyramids and sphinx that is also the part of the pyramid belong to the greatest monuments of the Ancient Egypt. Pyramids were the classical type of the tomb of kings during the epoch of Ancient Kingdom.

The most ancient tombs for the kings of Egypt were mastabas that appeared long before pyramids. The word mastaba refers to the Arab time and is connected with the fact that these mastabas reminded Arabs benches. Some pyramids had the names of the pharaohs that were buried in them. Probably the Greek word "pyramid" comes from the Egyptian word combination "per-em-us" that was the term to name the height of the pyramids.

The most ancient tombs belong to the time of the first Dynasty and had the form of the mastaba and were built of the airbrick. Pyramids were consisting of several parts that were situated above and under the ground. In the part that was situated above the pyramid people built chapels and rooms with the burying things. The underground level had the funeral rooms.

The first most ancient pyramid was the Josser pyramid that was the archaeological monument. The building of these pyramids were started in the beginning of 19th century already BC. This is the stepped pyramid. But there are scientists that say that this pyramid can be also the base of the greater construction that was ruined later. This pyramid was built several times more.

Astronomy was always important in Ancient Egypt. That is why even the Pyramids were built according to the night sky forming the constellation. And Nile was playing the role of the Via Lacteal.

Even modern technologies and knowledge not always allow building something similar. But ancient people without any technologies managed to build such memorable and extraordinary tombs.
